M29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon

Notes

Traveller players have a tendency to look down upon TL 9 forces as being "low tech." Warfare at TL 9 however, is becoming orders of magnitude more lethal than warfare at previous tech levels. Most of this can be chalked up to the increasing use of computers on the battlefield. Several weapons are introduced at this tech level to take advantage of this "Digitally-Integrated Battle Space (DIBS)."

The M-29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon was fielded by the U.S. Army in the early 21st century as a replacement for the venerable M-16A2. The weapon consists of a 20mm grenade launcher mounted over a short-barreled 5.56mm carbine. The electronic sight, when connected to a harness-mounted battle computer (2 kg, 4 liters, §1000) and short-range communicator allows the infantryman to pinpoint enemy units and transmit that information to a fire direction center, allowing for indirect fire with a -1 Dif Mod.

The 30-round box magazine is interchangeable with the M-16A2.

This weapon was rated, not designed, using Fire, Fusion & Steel.
