Sai:  Used in pairs.  The curved crossguards can catch the enemy's weapon and either snap the blade or flip it out of his hands.  Not edged; ends are sharpened for a thrust.  Disarming someone with these is a Formidable: Armed Martial Arts task.

Shipping Container, Standard (20'):  A standard 20' long shipping container such as might be found aboard a vessel, on a train or on a truck.  The interior may be used for bulk cargo storage, or it may be configured in any way the owner desires.  l 6 × w 2.4 × h 2.6

Shipping Container, Standard (45'):  A standard 45' long shipping container such as might be found aboard a vessel, on a train or on a truck.  The interior may be used for bulk cargo storage, or it may be configured in any way the owner desires.  l 13.5 × w 2.4 × h 2.6

Slidewalks and Escalators

Slidewalks and escalators consist of continuous belts or plates upon which passengers or cargo travel.  The earliest versions appear around TL 4, but they do not become popular (or safe) until TL 6.  The speed of the slidewalk or escalator is usually in increments of 5 km/hr.  Stepping safely onto a walkway is an Easy: Agility task.  The task increases by one level of difficulty for every 5 km/hr of the difference in speed.

Escalators require 1.6 square meters of equipment and has a footprint 1.25 meters long for every meter of height the escalator reaches.  For example, an escalator travelling between standard floors (3.5 meters high) would require 5.6 meters of equipment and have a footprint 4.375 (4.4) meters long.

The following values are per square meter of walkway or escalator:

Spear:  A long (300cm) polearm with a pointed tip, usually of metal.

Stairs, Stone:  Solid stone stairs.  If the staircase rises more than three meters, it must be buttressed.

Stairs, Wooden:  Typical stairs are built of sturdy hardwood.

Switchboard:  A switchboard can link up to 20 phones to each other; a master switchboard can link up to 20 switchboards.  At TL 4-6, each switchboard requires an operator and the connection time between any two phones requires one turn per switchboard between them.  At TL 7+ the switchboards are automated and connections are instantaneous.

Sword:  The standard long edged weapon, with a flat two-edged blade.  It may or may not have a basket hilt and hand protector.  A scabbard to carry the sword may be attached to the belt or to straps (or a sash) over the shoulder.  Blade length may vary from 70 to 95 cm.
