When I saw my first Dimetrodon I was
surprised at how small it was. I knew it was about ten feet long, but I
didn't realize half of that was tail. Hell, I'd seen alligators that were
bigger. It may have been small, but it was still mean. It charged at
us, using that monitor-lizard gait to rapidly close the distance between us.
While often mistaken for a dinosaur,
Dimetrodon was actually a mammal-like reptile of the Early Permian period.
It is most recognizable by the large sail on its back.
