"Cepheloid" is the name humans gave to the race that inhabited Mars until recent times. Initially, it was thought the Cepheloid originated on Mars, but as that planet was explored and its secrets unlocked, it became apparent even the Cepheloid were transplants to that world.

Physiology: Cepheloids were large, massing upward of 800 kgs. Most of this mass was taken up by the creature's huge brain. In addition to the brain, the Cepheloids had paired lungs, and a heart supporting a closed circulatory system. The Cepheloid had sixteen tentacles. Eight it used for locomotion and manipulation, and eight encircled it's lipless, V-shaped mouth.
