Gallery (Ram or Pick)

Description

A movable construction, typically a heavy timber frame, with green hides protecting the wood. It has a peaked to shed missiles and liquids. It is used to provide cover for attackers operating against a wall. Width is 3.6m, height 3.6m, length 6m.

The gallery can move at 5 meters per turn when propelled by 20 or more men.  For every four men fewer, the rate is reduced by one meter per turn.

Damage:  Damage depends upon the type of fixture fitted, the number of men operating it, and the surface being attacked.  Four men operating a ram against a wooden structure will cause cause one minor hit on an Impossible: Strength test (average their strengths).  The task becomes one level easier for each additional four men up to a maximum of Easy with 20 men.  Four minor hits equal one major hit.

The task becomes one level more difficult against stone structures, unless the ram is fitted with a spike or pick.

One attempt to damage a structure is allowed per turn.

Galleries are often built at the scene (provided materials are handy), or they can be prefabricated and hauled to the site in pieces and assembled there.
