Description
Golems are a special
form of magic item. Not all non-corporeal beings are
Empathically powerful, or even very intelligent.
However, even the relatively unintelligent can be
harnessed to animate objects. The most common of these
animated objects are typically man-shaped and are
referred to as golems. Golems are created in much the
same way as other magic items (two successful
Dimension
Walk tests). The difficulty level is Formidable,
regardless of the cost of the materials used to
construct the golem. Because of this, most golems are
simply roughly fashioned from clay into a semblance of a
man.
Golems have attributes just like NPCs. Strength is equal
to 2D6, adjusted for the height of the golem. For
example, a stone golem three meters tall is roughly 1.5
times the mass of a man, so multiply the roll by 1.5 and
round to the nearest whole number. Constitution is
handled similarly. Agility is rolled on 1D6 as is
Intelligence. Education and Charisma are
automatically 1. Hits are determined in the same manner
as for PCs. Determine the golem's "personality" by
drawing cards. Armor Value of the golem is as
appropriate to its materials.
Golems do not have conscious Empathic abilities.
However, they do have a form of
telepathy that allows
them to understand the orders of their masters,
regardless of the language those orders are issued in.
Golems will always follow the orders of their masters;
indeed, "golems must have masters." Golems are perfectly
content to carry out the same repetitive tasks as they
never grow bored. This makes them excellent guards or
laborers.
When a golem is created, its maker automatically becomes
its master. Another Empath can attempt to take
over the golem. This requires an Impossible:
Darkling
Empathy task. If successful, the golem accepts the new Empath as its master.
Golems cannot heal
damage, nor can they be repaired. Once the golem's body
is destroyed, the non-corporeal being returns to whence
it came.
