Description
The
shoggoth resembles a conglomeration of tiny spheres.
It can grow eyes, mouths and appendages at will (and
it uses these to attack opponents). Once numerous
millions of years ago, shoggoths are now found only
in out of the way places, usually as servants or
slaves to minions of the Great Old Ones. Shoggoths
live underwater, but occasionally venture onto land.
Shoggoths
were created by the
Elder Things as a slave race. The
non-intelligent shoggoths were controlled through
hypnosis. Some eventually developed intelligence and
unsuccessfully rebelled against their masters. With
the collapse of the
Elder Thing civilization, the
shoggoth population dwindled to a mere few handfuls.
Fire and electrical attacks do only half damage to the shoggoth.
Cold has no effect (the critters live in Antarctica, for Pete's
sake). Non-explosive small-arms attacks do only one point of damage.
Non-explosive large-caliber rounds do half damage. Explosive
rounds (both small arms and large caliber) do full damage.
Shoggoth can regenerate two points per five-second turn.
When a character first encounters a shoggoth, he or she must make a
Difficult
Fear
check. Failure is handled as per the
Fear
rule. A Catastrophic Failure indicates the character must make
an Average
Sanity check. Subsequent encounters do not elicit these
effects. |
