Torchwood Institute

Background

"Every Britain subject knows that Mars and Venus has alien life, but Torchwood knows that to be the Tip of the iceberg"

Established by Queen Victoria after an encounter with a mysterious "doctor" and a werewolf, the Torchwood Institute is tasked with protecting Great Britain, and, by extension, the world from non-terrestrial threats.

Unlike its rival organization, the more-recently formed MI-B, the Torchwood Institute is concerned about more subtle and ancient threats to humanity than Martian or Moon Man technology poses.  Because of this Torchwood has been closely monitoring the Spectral Eliminators.

After 1930, Torchwood becomes closely allied with the American SA-19, as both organizations have a similar mandate.

Special Operations

Any special operations undertaken by the Torchwood Institute would be conducted by its own agents.  Such operations are usually limited to black-bag jobs.

Freelancers

Very few agents of the Torchwood Institute live long enough to strike out on their own.  However, should an agent decide to "retire" he or she (Torchwood is an equal opportunity employer) will have his or her memory chemically erased.

Character Generation

Torchwood agents come from all sorts of backgrounds, from administration to zoology.  Any character may be recruited by the Torchwood Institute should that character's skills be needed.
