Ministry of Intelligence, Bureau B (MI-B)

Background

As the secrets of the ancient civilizations of Mars and Vulcan were gradually uncovered at the end of the 19th century, it became apparent to some that the technology being introduced to the Victorian world could be disruptive of society.  To prevent this from occurring, Her Majesty's government created the Ministry of Intelligence, Bureau B (MI-B).

This organization monitors all extraterrestrial artifacts coming into Britain, as well as all researchers, antiquarians, collectors, dealers and merchants dealing in such artifacts.  Of late, the agents of the bureau have taken to wearing black suits as a sort of "badge of office."  The location of the agency's headquarters is secret, but is rumored to masquerade as an ice cream shop.

In addition to its duties in policing the high-tech artifact trade, MI-B also investigates paranormal phenomena. The agency maintains its own stable of Empaths and has, of late, become embroiled in the Wizards' War, and it is apparent there are factions within the agency taking both sides.

Special Operations

Special operations for MI-B consist mostly of breaking-and-entering or hijacking to steal questionable artifacts.  Occasionally, the organization needs to have a particular smuggler or criminal mastermind eliminated.

Freelancers

Former members of the Bureau are supposedly hypnotically planted with false memories to cover their time under the colors.  If this is the case, there may well be former MI-B freelancers, though they will have no idea they are actually such.

Character Generation

Many of the agents recruited for MI-B come from the military, especially the Intelligence branches.  MI-B characters should serve at least one term in the military.  Depending upon the time-frame of the campaign, they would then spend at least one term as a government/undercover agent.
