A transdimensional island is one who's interior is far larger than its coastline would indicate. Examples include Skull Island and Monster Island, both of which have continent-sized interiors. The South American plateau in "Lost World" would also be considered a transdimensional island, even though it technically isn't an island.

On normal islands, the fauna trend smaller than their mainland counterparts. This can be seen in the dwarf sauropods that once inhabited the islands of the Tethys Sea, and in the dwarf mammoths that ranged the islands of the Mediterranean and off the coast of California. On transdimensional islands, on the other hand, the fauna tend to remain the size of their mainland counterparts, or they grow larger, as in megaprimatus.
