Editor's Note:  This is a necessary reimaging of the 1973 television series.  The technology has been updated to reflect more modern trends.

The Ark

The Ark consists of a central structure, 3200 kilometers long and 320 kilometers in diameter, along which 600 domes, each 80 kilometers across (with an area of approximately 5027 square kilometers), and arranged in 100 levels are attached*.  The central structure contains the bridge, engineering, specialty modules, and a number of docking bays for scout craft and shuttles.

The docking bays are capable of handling vessels up to 1000 displacement tons.

The Ark was launched in 2285 from it's building position between the Earth and the Moon.  The crew and passengers were to be the only survivors from the catastrophe facing Earth.  In 2385, something happened that killed most of the crew and sealed off the domes from each other and the central structure.  More than 400 years later (2790), the ship is spiraling in toward a G-type star and will burn up if the passengers and crew cannot be motivated to change the ship's course.

The Dome Wars

The Dome Wars are mentioned in a number of episodes.  Evidently, the various domes went to war with one another.  One dome, Manchester, supplied weapons for these wars.  Whether this was the incident that killed the crew and left the Ark drifting toward a G-type star is not revealed.

Technology

TL:  The prevailing technology level appears to be at least 18.  However, we're setting the tech level at 24 to cover all the "magical" devices found on The Ark.  There does not appear to be any faster-than-light drive; however, the various scout ships do travel close to the speed of light.

Sphere Projector:  This consists of a dais and chair.  When a character sits in or touches the chair, a holographic image appears before him inquiring how it can be of help.  This hologram is an interface for the central computer and will supply whatever information it can (unless said information is classified or otherwise unavailable).  The hologram appears to be a middle-aged man with glasses and a ship's crew uniform who initially inquires, "can I be of assistance?"  The hologram goes by the name of Mu Lambda 165.

Jump Pad:  At the end of each corridor is a one-meter disk.  A person stepping on the disk will be teleported instantly down the line to the next disk in the series (one kilometer).  The direction of transport is dependent upon the direction the character was travelling.  A character can use these pads to move relatively quickly from one dome to another, or from a dome to the central structure.  At the terminus of each jump pad is a sphere projector and often an engineering space.

Secondary Computers:  In addition to the main computer that runs the ship, there are a number of secondary computers (some sentient) that control various areas of the ship.  After 400 years with little or no human interaction, many of these devices have gone, for wont of a better word, insane.

Food Dispensers:  In the crews' staterooms are wall dispensers capable of producing food.  These dispensers can be programmed to match a character's tastes, or can be set to produce a random meal.

Debris Shield:  A force shield protects the Ark from space debris up to mountain size.

Vac Suit Lockers:  Near every airlock is a vac suit locker containing 1-6 general purpose vac suits.

Notes
*Some early drawings of the Ark have the domes as being about 10 kilometers in diameter.  However, Garth describes Cypress Corners as being a dome that took "two or three days to walk across."  This would indicate a dome at least 60 to 80 kilometers across.  We chose the latter to increase the area in which adventures could take place.  Tau Zeta reinforces this idea when "she" says a certain portion of the Ark is "11 kilometers" beneath the main control room.
